Only Believe

Hello everyone! I’m so thankful that you have taken the time out of your day to read today’s post. Today I want to talk about a man of faith named Abraham. I hope you enjoy it!

A biblical example of a man who displayed great faith is Abram. When Abram was 75 years old, God appeared to him and called him to leave his country and his father’s house to a land that He would show him. God told him, “I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:2-3).

Before Abram could receive these covenant blessings, the Lord had to deliver him out of idolatry. Joshua 24:2 reads, “Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, dwelt on the other side of the River in old times; and they served other gods” (Joshua 24:2). Therefore by faith, not only did Abram leave his possessions behind, but he also turned away from false gods in order to serve the living and true God. Just like Abram, we also must leave the place of familiarity and follow the voice of God wholeheartedly even when His plans don’t feel good to our flesh or make sense to us.

Now Abram’s faith doesn’t end there. In Genesis 17, Abram is 99 years old and God changed his name meaning “exalted father” to Abraham “father of many nations.” Sarai’s name was also changed to Sarah as she became the “princess of the nations to come.” By faith, Abraham believed that God would make him a father of many nations in spite of his circumstances. Romans 4:19-21 reads, “And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He did not waver at the promises of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” Praise God! Abraham stood firm in faith despite what it looked like in his flesh. He meditated on God’s Word rather than on his circumstances. We also must walk by faith and not by sight (see 2 Corinthians 5:7). As a result, God kept His Word and when Abraham was almost 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old, their son Isaac was born.

It fills my heart with joy when I read about how God blessed them to live long enough to enjoy their blessing. Isaac was 37 years old when his mother Sarah died at the age of 127 years, and Abraham died at the age of 175. Take heart and be encouraged because God shows no partiality. If He redeemed the time so that they could enjoy their blessing, Abba can surely do the same for you!

Let’s Pray

Lord God, I thank You that there is nothing too hard for you. I choose to believe in Your promises and take You at Your Word. I bring into remembrance what Jesus told me in John 6:29, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent” (John 6:29). Father, I believe in Your Son and declare that I have the faith of Abraham. I declare that my age and circumstances will never determine what I can and cannot do or have. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
